Where Zoe's From
Zoe Katz hails from a small town outside of Athens, Georgia called Bogart. She attended North Oconee High School, where she was involved in everything from Color Guard, Theatre, Chorus, and the Literary Magazine, to Mock Trial and a part-time job at a movie theater. Academically, she was an Honors A.P. Student, and her favorite classes were A.P. World History, A.P. U.S. History, and A.P. European History. She graduated as an International Honor Thespian with scholarships to attend Agnes Scott College in 2015.
Where Zoe's At
Zoe is a Senior at Agnes Scott College, where she is earning a Bachelor of Arts in History with a certificate in Global Learning through the revolutionary program, Summit. On campus, Zoe is involved in Sigma Alpha Iota, Collegiate Chorale, and has served as a class officer for the class of 2019.
Zoe has been honored as a Dana Leadership Scholar, an Emerging Leader, and as a finalist in the 47th Annual Agnes Scott Writers' Festival, with her one-act play, Pathways. She has been selected to pioneer the new Living-Learning Communities as a part of the Summit Curriculum, and in the 2018-2019 school year, she will live in the Leadership Living-Learning Community House.
What Zoe's Done
Through Agnes Scott College, Zoe has worked as a student tutor in the Center for Digital and Visual Literacy. She has studied abroad in Martinique and Poland. In the summer of 2017, Zoe attended the prestigious, three-week summer learning intensive, Bridge to Business at the Georgia Institute of Technology. She has been selected to design merchandise and t-shirts for numerous campus activities. She will be published in the 47th Annual Agnes Scott Writers' Festival magazine, was published in the Agnes Scott Literary Magazine, The Aurora, and has written three, 50,000 word novels through the
National Novel Writing Month challenge.
Off-campus, Zoe has worked as a Marketing and Media Intern for Green Worldwide Shipping, a private, independent shipping and logistics company in Decatur, Georgia. She is involved with the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta and has participated in their community Birthright trip to Israel over the 2017-2018 Winter Break. She has also participated in their Under-40 Leadership Development programing, LEADS (Leadership, Education, and Development Series) as part of the 2018 cohort.
Where Zoe's Going
After spending Summer 2018 working as a Historical Interpretation Intern at Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, Zoe hopes to combine her love of writing, history, and exploring identity into a career in public history, novel writing, nonfiction writing, and digital history.
Her academic interests include the Early Atlantic studies, the Enlightenment, Identity, Legitimacy, and Religion, as well as global perspectives on those topics. She enjoys taking the work she does in history and applying it to her creative pursuits through creative nonfiction writing. Her professional interests include writing, public history, digital history, and new media. She hopes to bring history and writing to a new generation through accessible, online content.
Who Is Zoe?
Outside of all that professional-sounding stuff, Zoe is a middle child, which should tell you a lot. She loves coffee and burritos, re-reading Harry Potter, and rooting for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
She loves film and TV. Her current favorite TV shows are The Good Place, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Brooklyn 99, Queer Eye, Travels with my Father, and Black Sails. Her favorite films are Call Me By Your Name, Mad Max: Fury Road, Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther, and anything directed by Taika Waititi.
Her favorite musicians are Taylor Swift, Jack Antonoff, Fun., Kesha, Hozier, Harry Styles, Little Mix, and Lorde. She once sang karaoke in Michael Stipe's bar. Her favorite musicals are Hamilton and Rent. She has sung in choirs since she was six-years-old, and sings Alto 2. Her favorite books are innumerable and impossible to remember, though Turtles All The Way Down by John Green holds a special place in her heart.
Zoe has been on the internet as long as she can remember. Her AIM username was zozoyoyo. One of her earliest memories was logging on the family computer to play the Arthur video game. She participates in National Novel Writing Month every November, and has completed 3, 50,00-word novels. She loves writing, reading, and traveling.
Zoe loves Agnes Scott College with her whole heart. It was her first (and only) choice for school. Her favorite tradition is Black Cat, and she has served as Black Cat Chair for the class of 2019 for three years. Go Sprites!
