The highest level of education my mother and father completed was the third and second grade, respectively. I am proof that you do not need to come from a well-off and educated family to persevere in educational and professional settings. During my college experience, I developed an interest in Psychology. My inquisitiveness to analyze and learn more about myself and others led me to become attracted to this field. Overall, my background, major, and willingness to learn have allowed me to grow and challenge myself as a student and an individual.
As a Posse Scholar and a student at Agnes Scott College, I have gathered the skills and experiences needed to prosper as a student and future employee. I was awarded a full-tuition scholarship to attend Agnes Scott College by the Posse Foundation. This scholarship is awarded based on leadership and academic merit and has a 4% acceptance rate. Further, throughout my undergraduate experience, I have challenged myself by completing challenging courses and working a part-time job. My effort and persistence to learn have led me to take part in the top 30% of students in my class. Also, my academic merit led me to be nominated for three honor societies, all of which I now take part in. Moreover, my engagement and commitment to social justice, motivated me to co-find an organization on campus called Freedom at Agnes. My involvement in this organization allowed me to become recognized on campus, as I was one of the few students chosen to be painted on a mural for having made a change at Agnes Scott College.
Also, I have solidified and grown new skills through professional experiences. One impactful experience was interning as a Human Resources and Facility Management Intern at Aramark. Through the course of my internship, I helped extend the recruitment for one of Aramark’s account, as I translated job applications, interviews, and orientations from English to Spanish. Moreover, I assisted with the execution of job fairs, hiring, and administrative tasks. Lastly, I helped manage the employees responsible for setting up rooms for conventions and conferences. Overall, during the experience at Aramark, I acquired the skills needed to recruit, manage, communicate and build rapport with different types of individuals.
In all, from my ability to manage different tasks, stay consistent, and be a catalyst for change, I know I will benefit from new experiences as a scholar and an individual. In addition, I believe that a degree in psychology will set me on a great foundation to succeed in all of my future career opportunities. Altogether, there has been so much that I have learned; however, I’m excited for everything else I have yet to discover.
